I have taken this professor for 3 different classes in my career. And I would sign up for a fourth tomorrow. While I conceed he is a bit of an aquired taste (similar to espresso the first time you taste it), once you get past his rough facade you will find a brilliant person, who just cares about teaching people things that he is very knowledgeable about. I can honestly say that I have not understood everything he has taught, and I have not 4.0'd every class I have had with him. But I can also say that I have learned more from this one person than from any other professor during my college career (undergrad, masters and doctoral years combined). He is a by the book kind of guy, he can be abrasive and he doesn't suffer fools gladly. If you are not a competent student, you should avoid him. If you however wish to learn, are willing to work hard, and have at least basic stats and math skills, you will probably love him. I really don't think you can ask for much more in a professor than knowledge, availability and a sense of humor. He gets a bad rap from people who can't cut it. They blame him for their own failure.

Please be very aware this teacher cheats you out of your extra credit so do not do it! It is not worth it! He calls it bonus points but it is just a part of your regular grade! Try to do as well as you can on the tests! Do all exercises and forums and try very hard to get a high group case grade then you will do very well in the class.

Reading previous posts, it looks like he's corrected some things. I just completed the course w/ a 3.5 overall (w/o the book). Rubin is a quirky guy, really very knowledgable, yet pretty structured and can be dry. He's got stories/examples for almost all situations and loves his jokes (although dry). He'll listen to questions/opinions and clarifies confusion well. He's on top of names and applies personalities so a good first impression will help a lot (don't tell me you're THAT lazy you cannot ask ONE question early on...). Tests are open book/note. If you're struggling with them it's because you aren't asking him questions (I told you he'll clarify well!).
***IMPORTANT***
Grading: (subject to change) 30 Qs per test worth 150 pts means EVERY TEST QUESTION IS 5 POINTS OF YOUR OVERALL GRADE!!! Take the tests seriously, they shouldn't be that hard. 5pts per forum post (for exercises and cases) should be easy pts + EC
--NOTE-- If you complete all the extra credit (65pts), it only adds up to 2 missed test problems or exercise. Don't rely on it for anything else (he adds the points to your grade AND the total, so your percentage barely goes up)

When I saw all the previous posts for this guy and found out that he was the only prof with openings for MGT 325 I thought I was fucked. But in all honesty I didn't think that his class was at all too demandingand after going through an internship I can vouch that the course material did have substance to it.
He gives 3 open book exams (which are impossible if you underestimate them and don't study), 1 case presentation and a few group exercises. This class was one of my few 4.0s at MSU and I really didn't put forth too much effort.
Downside about this guy, he is boooooorrrring.

Rubin is a good guy despite the previous posts. If you buy the book and know how to use a glossary, you will do 3.0+ on the exams, they're OPEN BOOK. You have ONE case presentation, think powerpoint and textbook terms, and easily another 3.0. As long as you show up for the excercises, reguardless of preperation, you will get all the points. His lectures might be abit dry, but he posts all his material on angel. I know it is not saying much, but Rubin enjoys teaching, especially mediating the exercises. If you contribute your opinion one time in class, he will remember you forever.

This is the easiest class at state but you will fail if you have this professor. Even if you study you wont pass. The tests are open note open book and they are still unfair.

He's a D-Bag but if you go to class and study you'll do just fine.

worst prof. i have had yet. Extremely "by the rules" type of guy who doesnt understand that when your class is failing, you are failing as a prof. His exams are open book but are impossible. No one in this class is doing well and i recommend switching out.

His grading sucks. He subtracts a point for everyone you answer wrong. Which has brought me down over a full grade on both exams. On the first exam over half the class got below a 1.0

Horrible professor, everybody, literally everybody in my class has a 1.0 or below.... Most people give mgt 325 a "blowoff" rating and paul rubin makes this class rocket science.. .his exams are impossible and graded horribly.. 3 points for a correct answer, -1 for wrong answers and that has dropped me by a whole grade point on both exams now so I'm pissed at him. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS
